Staff and volunteers at the International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) are excited to welcome you to Western in January! Here are the Top 5 Steps to help you prepare. Please contact us with any questions. We are here to help!

Sign Up for Orientation Day


International Student Orientation Day offers a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about life at Western. All new international and exchange students are encouraged to attend. Registration required.

Friday, January 5, 12-4 pm
Register online by January 1

 

Exchange Students: you are encouraged to attend this orientation event in addition to the exchange orientation, January 7 from 1-3 pm.Check your Western (UWO) email for the invitation and registration details.

Graduate Students: you are encouraged to attend this orientation event in addition to the Graduate Student Orientation January 3, 10 am-1 pm.

Apply for Your Peer Guide


The International Peer Connection program matches new international students with friendly Western students who have already experienced the transition to University life. Peer Guides are dedicated volunteers who help connect new students to the Western community, answer questions and provide support.

Prepare to Come


Ensure you have the following items with you when travelling to Canada:

- Valid Passport and Canadian Temporary Resident Visa and/or an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) (if applicable)
- Letter of Introduction issued by the Canadian Visa Office that approved your Study Permit* application
- Supporting documents
- Medical and immunization (vaccination) records, prescriptions and medications Money and a credit card
- List of important phone numbers

*You must have a valid Study Permit for Postsecondary Studies in Canada before beginning classes at Western. If you are transferring between institutions in Canada, you must notify IRCC via your MyCIC Account (GCKey) online.

Visit IESC When You Arrive


IESC staff and volunteers will be available in our Welcome Centre from January 2-5, and January 8-12 9:30 am to 4 pm. We will answer questions and provide an Orientation Package including details about our services, Western, London, social events, immigration, food, health care and much more!

Location: Second Floor, International & Graduate Affairs Building

Please note: University Offices, including IESC and Western International, will be closed December 22 at 2 pm and will re-open January 2 at 9 am. Many businesses and stores in Canada will be closed December 25 and January 1. Campus Police will remain open during this time.
