Accident / Incident Reporting
Whenever
you suffer a workplace accident or experience a close call the situation
must be reported. This page will assist you on what actions to take
and in completing the Accident/Incident Report Form.

Laboratory
Safety
If
you work in a lab you will need to know about flammable solvents,
compressed gases and other laboratory hazards. Valuable WHMIS
information such as the Western Workplace Labelling System and
links to MSDS collections are found here as well. There are
links to the Sign Book and Western Laboratory Health and Safety
Manual. Finally you can get a Laboratory Inspection checklist
to assist you in conducting your own Health and Safety Inspections.

Biosafety
The University
is involved in research involving biohazardous materials. It is imperative that
everyone involved understand their roles and responsibilities.

Construction
and Facilities Safety
Whenever
construction and renovation occurs there is the potential for
disruption and unsafe conditions. The University believes that
disruptions should be kept to a minimum and that unsafe conditions
should be prevented. This page will assist you in understanding
how to resolve construction related issues.

Environmental Programs
If you
are working with hazardous materials eventually you will have to dispose of them.
This page provides the information you will need to dispose of these materials
in an environmentally sound manner. The Hazardous Materials Management Handbook
is found here. In addition, there is information on the Transportation of Dangerous
Goods program and the University's spill control and response program.

First Aid
An overview
of the first aid program along with first aid volunteer responsibilities and
a list of where first aid kits are located plus other useful information.

Occupational Hygiene
If you
think you have an exposure to noise or hazardous materials (including indoor
air quality) or, if you work with designated substances, information found here
will give you the steps you need to take. There is also information here about

such as Eye Protection and Respirators.

Resources are available to help you understand the importance
of office
safety and ergonomics. By increasing your awareness of
potential hazards in

Safety Programs

The
use and store of nuclear substances, radiation devices, particle
accelerators, X-ray machines, lasers and laser systems,
and other non-ionizing radiation
sources are under these programs. These pages include the

a wide array of training seminars to help ensure your health and safety. What

Workplace
Safety Inspections
Workplace inspections are required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. There are two distinct types of inspection:
- Annual inspections of the entire University by the
Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Monthly inspections by every Supervisor of their specific area.
