Post Retirement Benefits
All who join the plan on or after January 1, 2010 or whom were a member of the benefit plan prior to January 1, 2010 will be able to accrue rights to post retirement benefit programs.
Pension Plan
All Clinical Faculty, regardless of their rank or appointment status, who earn employment income payable from the University may become eligible to join the Pension Plan for Academic Staff once the minimum earnings qualifications are met or upon commencement of a regular full time position in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Coverage for Dependents
Enrolled members with a spouse and/or children may elect family coverage for applicable provisions of the program. Children are eligible up to age 21, or up to age 25 on the provision of evidence that the child is in school full time. Mentally or physically infirm dependent children, as defined in the benefits contract, would continue to be covered regardless of age, on provision of satisfactory evidence of the infirmity to the insurer.
When Coverage Ends
Membership continues until resignation or retirement from a full time academic appointment at the University. Where a member dies while actively enrolled in the plan with family coverage, a spouse or dependent child of the member will remain eligible for health plan coverage for 36 months following the death of the member.
