Advanced Facility for Avian Research (AFAR)

Western’s Advanced Facility for Avian Research is a 13,000 square-foot facility, home to the world’s first hypobaric bird wind tunnel. Here, researchers study avian flight while altering variables like air pressure, moisture, humidity, and altitude.  Learn how researchers study the effects of environmental change on birds’ neural and psychological systems, their reproduction, and migration patterns.

Meeting Location: The Advanced Facility for Avian Research is located behind the Support Services Building, beside the Graphic Services Building.

Faculty of Health Sciences anatomy students now have access to an outstanding learning experience in Western’s Anatatorium, the first facility of its kind in North America. Join Dr. Melling to experience a 3D visual phenomenon. See the way students are learning today and gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of the human body.

CSTAR, Canada's leading national, interdisciplinary centre, develops and validates new minimally invasive medical technologies, and educates physicians worldwide on their use.  On this tour you'll have the opportunity to work, hands‑on, with the latest simulation equipment at CSTAR.

CSTAR, a program of London Health Sciences Centre, collaborates with the Department of Surgery at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western to train and educate students and working surgeons on these new technologies.
