Here are biographies for Pension Plan event speakers in April and May 2017:
Kate Nazar has been a pension focused professional for more than 22 years. As Vice President, Client Solutions Centre at Sun Life Financial, she is currently responsible for the overall leadership of the Client Solutions Centre and guiding the seamless delivery of Sun Life’s wealth and insurance solutions and services to transitioning group plan members.
Kate has spent much of her career directly supporting Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit group plan sponsors and plan members. Committed to the future of the pension industry, Kate is a member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) and Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute (CPBI).
Kate is a graduate of Western University with a degree in Economics and lives with her husband and three children in Burlington, Ontario.
Kate will co-present with her Sun Life colleague Michael Cunningham on the topic "Prepare, optimize and enjoy your retirement income".
Michael has been working in the financial services industry since 2008. He joined Sun Life as a Financial Services Consultant in the Client Solutions Centre in 2012 and then became a Retirement Consultant in 2016.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences with Honours in Economics from York University. Michael is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and has also obtained industry related credentials that include – Certificate in Advanced Investment Advice through the Canadian Securities Institute, Life License Qualification Program ( LLQP).
Michael will co-present with his Sun Life colleague Kate Nazar on the topic "Prepare, optimize and enjoy your retirement income".
Jason graduated with a Bachelor of Economics degree from York University in Toronto. He also holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. In addition, Jason has completed numerous financial, tax and estate planning specialty courses from a variety of organizations.
Jason has been providing fee-only, advice-only financial planning since 2001 and is one of Canada’s best-known fee-only financial planners. He is currently a personal finance columnist for the Financial Post and MoneySense Magazine.
Jason has a particular interest in working with clients with complex planning issues, including Canadian expats in other countries.
He has three children and is an active volunteer in their schools and their sporting activities. He previously served on the board of directors as Treasurer for the Block Parent Program of Canada, a national children’s charity.
Paul Litt is a Senior Education Consultant with Group Retirement Services at Sun Life Financial. He has been in the financial services industry since 1989.
Prior to joining the education team in 2004, Paul worked in the Corporate Information Centre from 1989 to 1995. In 1995 he joined Group Retirement Services and worked in plan administration and also the Customer Care Centre before joining the Training Team in 2001. During the integration with Clarica from 2001 until 2004 he played an integral role in transitioning the Clarica retirement plans over to the Sun Life platform and training staff.
Paul provides education services to large national clients including acting as the lead educator in developing and delivering education program strategies that assist members achieving their retirement goals and objectives.
Paul has successfully completed his Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Life Licensed with his LLQP designation.
An experienced educator, Shafique has worked in the Group Retirement Services division and Education Team of Sun Life Financial since 2011, and has significant experience conducting member education seminars to help members achieve their retirement goals and objectives.
Complementing his educational expertise, Shafique brings a strong academic and financial planning background, having worked as a post-secondary instructor as well as a Banker and Insurance Analyst at various financial institutions. Shafique has been in the financial services industry for over 15 years and is a graduate of the University of Texas, with a degree in business. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and holds designations as a Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) and Elder Planning Counsellor (EPC).
