Study in Tours, France, in the Summer of 2012 (courses taught in French and in English)
Take a summer course, taught in English, at the University of Tours, France, for Western credit in Social Science or Arts & Humanities (subject to approval by the appropriate Department). French language courses are also offered.
- Or take an advanced French literature and culture course at the University of Tours, for a 3000-level French credit.
- Or take a language course offered through the Institut de Touraine.
- Or combine two of these options
-There are no longer grants allocated by Western specifically to this program. Students participating in programs such as this one will be eligible to apply to a new international experience funding program, which is expected to be announced soon by Western’s Office of the Provost. We cannot at the present time guarantee it will be available in time for this summer. Information will be posted here as soon as it is available.

OPTION 1: Take a Course Taught in English (0.5 credit)

-Tuition: Understanding Europe 1000€
-Housing: 70€ to 110€ per week (residence or off-campus; University of Tours assists with finding off-campus housing); meals additional

OPTION 2: Take an Intensive two-week French Course and a Course Taught in English (0.5 + 0.5 = 1.0 credit)
Intensive French Language Course (June 4 to 15)

-Tuition French Course: 425€ (2011 fee; 2012 fee to be confirmed)

OPTION 3: Take a four-week intensive French course (1.0 French credit)
French language courses at 9 different levels levels offered by the Institut de Touraine; dates of sessions:
-April 30 to May 25 (no beginners’ courses available in this session)
-May 29 to June 22
-July 2 to 27
-July 30 to August 24

OPTION 4: For Advanced Students of French Literature and Teachers of French (0.5 French credit)
Littérature et culture françaises en Val de Loire (June 25 to July 6)
This is a two-week intensive course for advanced students in French Literature. Qualifying students who successfully complete it will receive a 0.5 credit in French at the 3000 level.

TRAVEL, VISA INSURANCE:
Students are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Tours. To get to Tours, you fly to Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport. There are TGV trains direct from the airport to Tours (get your ticket to ‘Tours Ville’; the TGV goes to the suburban station ‘St. Pierre des Corps’, and then you get the regional train waiting across the platform that takes about 7 minutes to get to the central Tours Ville station). Booking your train ticket well in advance can get you better rates:

Once you have been accepted to the program, we will put you in touch with representatives of the local institutions, who will provide you detailed information about your arrival, and will be available to answer your e-mail inquiries about such matters as you prepare your trip.
All students are responsible for making sure that their necessary travel documents are in order. Please see the website of the Consulate of France in Toronto for information regarding visa requirements:

At the time these notes were prepared, Canadian citizens did not require a visa for a stay in France of less then 3 months. A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of the stay is required. Again, it is your responsibility to check the requirements with the Consulate.
All students are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate out-of-country insurance coverage.

-Submit when you apply: An official academic transcript (available from Student Central, 1st floor, WSSB); You do not need to provide letters of reference; $25 application fee (money order or bank draft payable to “The University of Western Ontario”)
