The Third Year in Nice Exchange Program
Academic Information

Coordinator 2011-2012:

Dr. Christine Roulston (UWO)
croulsto@uwo.ca

During the 2011-2012 year in Nice, Dr. Roulston will be teaching two half credit third year Language courses (3900 or Special Topics Language courses for UWO students) and one third year, half credit Literature course (18th Century). Please note that the Literature course will be taught such that a second year Literature course is not required as a pre-requisite.

All students going on exchange must take at least 4.0 equivalent courses (maintaining a full-time student status) while in Nice. Dr. Roulston will only be teaching 1.5 credits in Nice and therefore the other 2.5 credits (minimum) must be taken through the Université de Nice.  The ECT (European Credit Transfer) system converts as such:

4.0-6.0 ECTs = 0.5 credit course
10.0-12.0 ECTs = 1.0 credit course

FRE 3580F : A la découverte du dix-huitième siècle

Description du cours:

Tuition fees

Students participating in the Nice Program pay full tuition fees (activity fee may be deducted - check with your Registrar's Office) to their home university in Canada for their year of study in Nice. They do not pay registration fees to the University of Nice, although a library incidental fee of approximately $35 is levied. They are also required to pay for Sécurité Sociale health insurance (192 euros in recent years).

Courses from the Université de Nice

You will be expected to register in the equivalent of 3.0 courses (six semester courses) at the Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines, Université de Nice. The Program Coordinator will assist you with your course selections.

You will receive credit from the participating university at which you are registered for all French courses you complete successfully at Nice. However, you must abide by all of your home university's regulations regarding course changes and cancellations to the extent that is feasible. If in doubt always contact the Program Coordinator. Iit may also be necessary to consult your own university. Every effort will be made to find equivalent courses. For courses in areas of study other than French, it is the student's responsibility to ascertain that the home university will accept the course for transfer credit.

Normally, the French courses which participants in the Canadian Third Year in Nice Program take are first-year level courses from the Département de Lettres Modernes. The web site of the Université de Nice can help you decipher the system of diplomas in French Universities, which has undergone a major restructuring that was implemented in the 2004-2005 academic year. Rather than taking "DEUG I" courses as they were called under the old system, students will take "Licence 1" courses.

Your home University will advise you on the equivalents that will be assigned to the courses.
