FM teams up to fight violence against women

August 28, 2012

Facilities Management is putting together a team to Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. The charitable event brings awareness to the campaign to end violence against women, offering support to Women’s Community House. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes takes place on Sunday 16, 2012 and the main event includes a walk around Victoria Park in a pair of red high-heeled shoes.

Facilities Management - Walk a Mile in Her ShoesCaretaking Services’ Kayla Lagerwerf (klagerwe@uwo.ca) is overseeing the campaign for the Division and has begun to organize the Western FM Team. She is an employee at Women’s Community House and passionate about the cause.

Kayla is engaging Facilities Management staff to discuss the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event to both seek participation/support as well as bring awareness to the campaign to end violence against women. She is contacting supervisors to share walk information at upcoming unit/staff meetings.

Teams from all over London including firemen, policemen, and private organizations take to the streets around the park in support of the cause. The team that raises the highest amount of pledges will be presented with the “Shoe-be-do” award while the individual with the highest amount of pledges will receive a “Shoe-per-man” certificate.

If you'd like to join or sponsor the Western FM Team, contact Kayla. More information on the event (including tips on how to walk in pumps) is available on the campaign website: www.walkamilelondon.ca/
