FM restores campus to full power

Western has resumed normal operations as full power was restored to all systems Monday following a power outage across campus late last month.
According to Western officials, the root of the problem was traced to a failure of key components housed in one of the university's electrical substations, which occurred at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 30.
The timing of the repairs couldn’t be better, said Roy Langille, Facilities Management vice-president, as the area braces for high temperatures – and the ensuing air conditioning demand – this week. But, Langille warned, full power doesn’t mean conservation efforts need to become lax.
“Being back to normal shouldn’t mean that we don’t pay attention to energy reduction where possible,” he said. “We are still asking that all unnecessary lighting be turned off in offices, corridors, labs and classroom spaces. Also, if students, staff and faculty could make sure to turn off their computers when not in use, this would also reduce electricity demand.”
