MClSc Program Academic Requirements

Program objectives will be achieved through a 12 month (3 terms) program comprised of six courses including: academic courses offered through a combination of the traditional classroom experiences and distance education; clinical mentoring courses; and participation in a graduate level research project.

  • Two clinical specialty courses geared to the development of advanced clinical skills specific to the field.

  • Two academic courses that are core to both fields.

    • advanced professional practice content and competencies
    • development of clinical research skills appropriate for an advanced practice setting.
  • One clinical mentorship course.
    Completion of clinical mentorship hours and satisfactory performance on clinical exam (to be scheduled during summer residency period - July).

  • One research experience course.

    • Presentation of results from a supervised research experience at the School of Physical Therapy Research Day (to be scheduled in July each year).

Progression Requirements

  1. Course marks
    Students must attain an overall average of no less than 70% on all required courses in the program and no less than 60% in any one course. In the clinical specialty courses which include both written and practical evaluations, students may be required to obtain an overall minimum average of 65% in BOTH the practical and theoretical components of the course in order to pass the course. Failure of one or both of these required components will result in a grade of “F” (fail). Grades obtained in team projects/presentations will not be used to calculate minimum requirements for progression. Details regarding the requirements for passing a course and marking criteria will be provided in each course outline.
  2. Completion of clinical mentorship hours
  3. Passing grade on clinical examination administered during the summer residency period (July)
  4. Completion of the supervised research project (minimum 70% of PT9630 course requirements)
  5. Attendance at mandatory residency periods.

Wound Healing Residency

  • Septermber 10 - 23, 2012
  • January 11 - 23, 2013
  • July 15 - 19, 2013

FCAMPT Residency

  • September 10 - 12, 2012
  • July 18 & 19, 2013

Dates will be provided for each academic year once they have been determined. July dates are tentative and will be confirmed in September.

Withdrawal from the program is mandatory for students who have failed any of the above progression requirements. Students may appeal to the School Director for relief from the requirement to withdraw.
