Fieldwork & Placements

One of the most exciting aspects of the professional graduate program in occupational therapy involves the fieldwork placement courses. The block placements during Years 1 and 2 occur in the winter and summer terms. A number of different placement types are available to give students a variety of opportunities to grow their skills and knowledge, including:

  • Acute Care
  • Outpatient
  • Day Hospital
  • Public Sector
  • Private Practice
  • Community Health
  • Rehabilitation
  • Long-Term Care
  • Children's Centre

For the Level 1 Fieldwork Course (OT9580), students will be matched to a Western catchment area placement through the School of Occupational Therapy’s fieldwork database. For subsequent fieldwork courses students can request a placement inside Western's catchment area or submit their request for a placement outside of Western’s catchment area to the Fieldwork Coordinator. Students should be aware that flexibility regarding placement location is needed in order to match all students with placements. Additional expenses related to placements may be incurred.

Western's catchment area includes the following locations:

  • London
  • St. Thomas
  • Stratford
  • Kitchener/Waterloo
  • Cambridge
  • Guelph
  • St. Catharines/Niagara
  • Penetanguishene
  • Orillia
  • Owen Sound
  • Chatham
  • Windsor
  • Sarnia
  • Northern Ontario
