Fieldwork Placements

One of the most exciting aspects of the graduate program in occupational therapy involves the fieldwork placement courses.

Fieldwork placements reflect the broad range of practice settings, areas of therapy and clients. Close ties to world-class hospitals, community agencies and private facilities provide varied clinical experiences. The University of Western Ontario catchment area includes London, St. Thomas, Stratford, Kitchener/Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, St. Catharines, Owen Sound, Chatham, Windsor, Sarnia, as well as access to Northern Ontario including the opportunity to participate in the NOSM program which provides funding and accommodations for their Northern placements. Some opportunities are also available for students to complete fieldwork in healthcare agencies outside of Canada.

Flexibility regarding placement location is needed in order to match all students with placements. Professor Ann Bossers, M.Ed., OT Reg. (Ont.) and Professor Sandra Hobson, MAEd, OT Reg. (Ont.) are the Coordinators of the Fieldwork Program and will meet with you in September and throughout the program to provide support for the fieldwork courses. Upon completion of the program students will have accumulated at least 1000 hours of block fieldwork experience and approximately 200 hours of additional fieldwork that is integrated throughout other courses in the curriculum.
