Areas of expertise:

Her research has included investigations into bullying in the work place, primary health care, health promotion and homelessness, and social support and addiction. She is interested in how experiencing work place bullying may influence women’s health promotion and also how that process may be influenced by multiple experiences of victimization.

Position on team:

Dr. MacIntosh is the New Brunswick New Investigator on the New Emerging Team funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (2005-2008). She is taking a lead role in examining issues of work place bullying for women in the longitudinal study.

Research grants:

2006-09. CIHR Operating grant:  team of MacIntosh (PI), Wuest, and Merritt-Gray (Co-Is) to study the health promotion processes of women who have experienced work place bullying and intimate partner violence. Proposal scored 4.52 and was ranked 2 of 38 applications reviewed Funded for three years ($179,712).

2006-07. Crime Prevention Partnership Program, National Strategy on Community Safety and Crime Prevention funding to Muriel Mc Queen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research Work Place Abuse Research Team, MacIntosh, PI., to study organizational bullying reduction strategies ($75,718).

2006-09. SSHRC funding to team of MacIntosh, PI, J. Wuest & M. Merritt-Gray, Co-Is, to study the Effects of Work Place Bullying on Women’s Patterns of Engagement in the Workforce ($68,611).

2006. CIHR funding for LOI to develop full proposal as CoPI with A. MacGregor, (York) and E. Jensen (York) and B. Paton (U of Calgary) to study Nursing Abuse: Healing the Learning Environment in Educational and Healthcare Settings ($10,000 to develop full proposal).

2005-06. SSHRC funding to team of B. Paterson (PI), C. Gibson, J. MacIntosh, M. Dykeman, N. Letourneau (all of UNB), B. Fischer (U of T), and M Stewart (U of A) to study the social support networks and need for social support among adults with chronic pain who are enrolled in methadone treatment ($119,692). Research in progress.

2004-05. Funding from the Canadian Nurses Association, Nursing Care Partnership Fund to team of M. Dykeman, B. Paterson, S. Stewart, G. Getty. K. Cruttenden, K. Wilson, J. MacIntosh to study how nursing roles evolve within a primary health care nurse-managed clinic ($30,000). Research completed and a publication submitted.

2004. Funding from NHI Homeless Fund for hiring support and counselling services for the UNB Community Clinic ($117, 064. over two years).

2003. Funding from University Research Fund (Series 39) to conduct research on workplace violence with team from Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation Family Violence Research Centre ($7300). Research completed, presented at conferences, and two publications.

2002. Funding from the HRDC Supporting Community Partnerships Initiative ($178,215) to establish the UNB Nursing Community Health Centre (a nurse-managed primary health care clinic for underserved populations). Collaborators were G. Getty, M. Dykeman, C. Gibson, J. MacIntosh, E. Sangster-Gormley, P. Seaman. Many presentations made and one publication.

2000. Notified that I was successful in the SSHRC competition for a Doctoral Fellowship ($33,240 over two years). I was not able to accept that award.
