Lorraine Davies is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, The University of Western Ontario.  Her research examines the processes through which gender inequality affects patterns of violence and women’s mental health.  Specifically, she is interested in how family structure and the social construction of motherhood influence women’s decisions throughout the process of leaving, especially those decisions related to work and family.  In general, her intent is to better understand how social forces and individual agency interact to affect the amount of power and control women have in their daily lives.

Position on team:

As part of this project, Dr. Davies will take a lead role in examining the process of leaving an abusive relationship, in particular how it varies depending upon the social context of her life before and after leaving.
