Nikki loved to cook and experiment with new recipes and delighted in sharing her culinary treats with her friends and colleagues. She was an avid reader and talked with great enthusiasm about her recently completed books. Nikki was a movie buff and the Academy Awards was a sacred event; we all looked forward to hearing her lively analysis. Her time at the lake each fall was a cherished occasion – for peace, serenity, a porch, and a book. Nikki touched so many within our School and the larger Western community. We have received many emails and messages of support, sorrow and condolence that exemplify the essence of Nikki’s spirit and that seem particularly appropriate to share. Nikki will be deeply missed and her spirit will never be forgotten.Nursing mourns the loss of Nikki Petrie
The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing is mourning the sudden and unexpected loss of our dear friend and colleague, Nikki Petrie. As our receptionist for the past 11 years, Nikki was the “face of the school”. She was the first person people encountered, and she warmly welcomed everyone who passed through our doors. Her smile, her sense of humour, her laughter, and engaging personality left a lasting impression upon all. Nikki’s interest in everyone was genuine and sincere. Despite the many demands associated with her role, she always made time for everyone – students, faculty, staff and visitors alike. She listened endlessly and patiently to our stories and no request was too big or too small.
“She was always my ‘go-to’ girl and always so willing to help even when she was not the right person to go to!”
“Nikki always had a listening ear for everyone, and her kind heart was consistently reflected in the empathy she conveyed in response to everyone.”
“She was never without a smile when we asked our millions of questions as she answered each and every one of them.”
