A two-time winner of the Faculty of Health Sciences Teaching Award of Excellence (2006, 2009), she received a standing ovation from the Class of 2010 as she was presented with the Pleva Award on Thursday by Janice Deakin, Provost & Vice-President (Academic). "We are exceptionally proud of Kathy and pleased to see her awarded with this highly prestigious teaching award", said Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Jim Weese. "It was especially touching to see our students enthusiastically applaud her when she was presented with the award. She is a gifted instructor and we are blessed to have her in the Faculty." Professor Obright is an Associate Professor and full-time teacher in the School of Physical Therapy. Her research interests are in the area of orthopaedics, particularly carpal tunnel syndrome and whiplash associated disorders. Her master's thesis work examined the effect of the upper limb neurodynamic test on sensory nerve conduction in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Currently, her areas of research are focused on the effectiveness of treatment in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome and on the predictors of long term whiplash syndrome.Kathy Obright Honoured at Convocation with Pleva Award
While the official announcement was made several months ago, the School of Physical Therapy's Kathy Obright was formally recognized as a recipient of Western's Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching at Fall Convocation on Oct. 28.
