Progression Requirements

All students in the School of Kinesiology are enrolled in a general first year before progressing into a specific module prior to entering second year. A student's course selection during first year determines which modules they are eligible to enter in second year. Some modules are competitive and have limited enrolment.

Progression Requirements for Honors Bachelor's Degrees

Bachelor of Science (BSc) - Honors Specialization

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
This is a limited enrolment module (75 spaces) and progression standards may fluctuate from year to year.

  • To progress into this module, students require:
    • A minimum 70% cumulative average in first year
    • No grade less than 60%
    • A minimum 70% modular average (Kin 1088A, Kin 1080B, Physiology 1021 and 2.0 Science credits from the 1000 level)
      • The 2014 cut-off was 77%
  • Students who select the BSc module during Intent to Register, but who are not eligible, will automatically be considered for the Honors BA module (see below) and can attempt to transfer into the BSc module the following year.
  • Students with a reduced course load will be considered but must have completed 2.0 Science credits.

Graduation minimum average requirements
Students must maintain a 70% average on their senior kinesiology courses with no grade less than 60%. Additionally, students must maintain a cumulative average of 65% with no failed courses.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) - Honors Specialization (Kinesiology)

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
All Kinesiology students who meet the standards listed below will be able to progress into this module.

  • To progress in this module, students require:
    • A minimum 70% cumulative average in first year
    • No grade less than 60%
    • A minimum 70% modular average (Kin 1088A, Kin 1080B, Physiology 1021 and the student's highest grade in an additional 1.0 credit course)
  • Non-Kinesiology students may be admitted to this module even if they have not completed all the prerequisite courses
  • Students with a reduced course load will be considered for progression into this module.
  • Students who do not meet these requirements will be considered for the 3- or 4-Year BA program.

Graduation minimum average requirements
Students must maintain a 70% average on their senior kinesiology courses with no grade less than 60%. Additionally, students must maintain a cumulative average of 65% with no failed courses.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) - Honors Specialization (Sport Management)

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
This is a limited enrolment module (30 spaces) and progression standards may fluctuate from year to year.

  • To progress in this module, students require:
    • A minimum 70% cumulative average in first year
    • No grade less than 60%
    • A minimum 70% modular average (Kin 1088A, Kin 1080B, Physiology 1021 and Business 1220E)
      • The 2014 cut-off was 70%
  • Students who select the Sport Management module during Intent to Register, but who are not eligible, will automatically be considered for the Honors BA module (see above) and can attempt to transfer into the Sport Management module the following year.
  • Students with a reduced course load will be considered but must have completed the mandatory courses for the module.

Students must maintain a 70% average on their senior kinesiology courses with no grade less than 60%. Additionally, students must maintain a cumulative average of 65% with no failed courses.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) - Honors Specialization (Fitness & Exercise Prescription)

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
This is a limited enrolment module (15 spaces) and progression standards may fluctuate from year to year.

  • To progress in this module, students require:
    • A minimum 70% cumulative average in first year
    • No grade less than 60%
    • A minimum 70% modular average (Kin 1088A, Kin 1080B, Physiology 1021 and the student's highest grade in an additional 1.0 credit course)
      • The 2014 cut-off was 70%
  • Students who select the Fitness & Exercise Prescription module during Intent to Register, but who are not eligible, will automatically be considered for the Honors BA module (see above) and can attempt to transfer into the Fitness & Exercise Prescription module the following year.
  • Students with a reduced course load will be considered but must have completed the mandatory courses for the module.

NOTE: Students interested in progressing in this module must complete a supplementary application, which can be picked up in the Kinesiology office.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) - Double Major

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
All Kinesiology students who meet the standards listed below will be able to progress into this module.

  • To progress in this module, students require:
    • A minimum 70% cumulative average in first year
    • A minimum 70% modular average (Kin 1088A, Kin 1080B, Physiology 1021 and the student's highest grade in an additional 1.0 credit course)
    • No grade less than 60%
  • Students must also meet the grade/pre-requisite requirements for the second module.
  • Students with a reduced course load will be considered for progression in this module.
  • Students who do not meet these requirements will be considered for the 3- or 4-Year BA program.

Graduation minimum average requirements
Students must maintain a 70% average on their senior kinesiology courses with no grade less than 60% and should also maintain a 70% average on the senior courses in their second major module courses with no grade less than 60%. Additionally, students must maintain a cumulative average of 65% with no failed courses.

Bachelor's Degrees

Bachelor of Arts (BA): 3-Year or 4-Year

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2
All Kinesiology students who meet the standards listed below will be able to progress into this module.

  • To progress in either of these modules, students require:
    • A minimum average of 70% in first year
    • No grade less than 60%.
  • Students who do not meet the minimum progression requirements will be ranked by the School of Kinesiology and offers of admission will be made until the module is filled.
  • Students with a reduced course load will be considered for progression in this module.

Combined Degrees

Kinesiology and Business

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2 in Kinesiology
This is a limited enrolment module and progression standards may fluctuate from year to year. Students require a minimum 80% average in first year with no grade less than 60% to progress into this program. As a backup plan, students may wish to consider following the Honors BA Sport Management program during years 1 and 2. Students are not admitted to the combined program until they have successfully completed HBA Year 1 and met all progression requirements.

Kinesiology and Law

Progression from Year 1 to Year 2 in Kinesiology
This is a limited enrolment module and progression standards may fluctuate from year to year. Students require a minimum 80% average in first year with no grade less than 60% to progress into this program. Students are not officially accepted into the combined program until fourth year and must be successfully admitted by the Faculty of Law.

NOTE: Progression decisions are made by the School of Kinesiology in May, prior the completion of summer school courses, and are not reassessed until the next academic year.
