Intent to Register (ITR)

What?

Intent to Register is your opportunity to let Western know if you will be returning next year.  You will also tell us which program you wish to be considered for.  You will need to have a first choice and a back-up or 2nd choice program.

When?

February 1 - March 31

You must complete your Intent to Register form by March 31, or you will not be in the Kinesiology program next year.  In May, the Kinesiology office will evaluate you based on all academic work completed.  June is when you will go onto your student centre to see what program you have been placed in and when your course selection date is.

How?

ONLINE - www.studentservices.uwo.ca

All students will do their ITR online with the exception of those groups listed below.  Log-in to your student services account at www.studentservices.uwo.ca.  Then select “My Possibilities” and you will find the intent to register form there.  You can submit the form as many times as you would like from Feb 1 to March 31.  Only your most recent submission will be considered for review in May.

ON PAPER - Academic Counselling Office

Only the following groups will fill out a paper ITR form in the academic counseling office.  All other students will fill out their ITR online.

  • New Concurrent Degree Students (two degrees at the same time.  i.e. Nursing & Kinesiology)
  • Western Scholars Students wanting to change their program or students wishing to add Western Scholars to their program.
  • Scholars Elective Students wanting to change their program or students wishing to add Scholars Elective to their program
  • First Year Students wanting to continue in a common first year program
  • Second degree students

Which Program?

How to choose a program for your first choice on the ITR form

  • Think about courses you liked and were successful in this year and then research programs related to those courses.
  • When researching the program (via the Academic Calendar) you are checking to see if;
    • you would be interested in the courses you have to take throughout that degree.
    • you have the required first year courses.
    • you meet progression (average) requirements for that program.
  • For Kinesiology programs, you can also research using the program planning guides online.

Additional Modules

Studying a major or minor in addition to your primary module

  • If you’re interested in focusing your elective courses throughout your degree on a 2nd subject area, then you can select to add an additional major or minor to your 1st choice on your ITR form.
  • It is not mandatory to select an additional major or minor.

Second Choice = Back-Up Plan

What to choose as a back-up to Kinesiology or your first choice program

  • Your 2nd choice has to be outside of Kinesiology.
  • Ask yourself, “if I couldn’t study my 1st choice what would I like to study?”.
  • Make sure you have the 1st year required courses by checking the academic calendar.
  • If you don’t have the required 1st year courses for your back-up, you may want to consider another program or choose “Undeclared” in a Faculty outside of Health Sciences.
  • Undeclared—Is typically a student that has selected first year elective courses that do not lead to any other program options or a student who does not like the program options their electives lead to.  By being undeclared in a Faculty, it means that the student would not have specific program requirements to follow.  Therefore, as an undeclared student they would be working on getting the  required courses and average to get them into the program they want for third year.

What if...???

What if I don't meet the above progression standards?

  • Students who apply to the competitive Kinesiology modules who are not eligible will be automatically considered for the Hons. Specialization BA.  If they are not eligible for that they will be considered for the major.
  • Students who do not meet the Hons. Specialization BA progression requirements will also be reviewed for the major in Kinesiology.  Requirements for the major vary from year to year.  Last year, a minimum of a 65% average was needed with no grade less than 60%.
  • If you do not meet the progression standards listed above as a result of significant medical or compassionate grounds that affected your grades, you may submit a “Letter of Support”  outlining your circumstances.  It will be due by April 30th to the Kinesiology office.  Letters will be reviewed on an individual basis.
  • Students applying to the Hons. Fitness and Exercise Prescription or Physical Education for Teaching modules must select Hons. Specialization BA and then drop off the supplementary application form at the Kinesiology office.
