PhD - PSYCHOLOGICAL BASES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY& MOVEMENT CONTROL
Program of Study
The requirements for a doctorate in Psychological Bases of Physical Activity & Movement Control are as follows:
- A total (master’s plus PhD) of 8 courses at the Graduate level (including Kin 9201)
- Graduate seminar (Kin 9201) for the duration of their program of study
- Additional courses at the discretion of the student’s Advisory committee. A PhD student's Advisory Committee consists of the student's Advisor and at least two faculty members from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
- A candidacy oral and written exam. The purpose of the candidacy examination is to allow the candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their competence in their field of research and related areas. A student's Advisory Committee guides the student in preparation for the candidacy examination. This Committee delimits the area on which the candidate is examined and provides the candidate with a reading list outlining the nature of the information to be examined.
- A dissertation. The doctoral dissertation is the distinguishing feature and major evidence of academic competency on the part of the candidate. General procedures related to the doctoral dissertation are outlined in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Calendar. The writing and final defense of the dissertation before an Examining Committee proceeds according to the regulations of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Period of Study
The minimum residency period for the PhD degree is two years of full time study and most require up to four years. Students are expected to continue their studies full time during the summer months.
