Health Professional Education

This field supports research in the broad area of health professional education and practice. Philosophically, the field is informed by an experiential adult learning model, grounded in open dialogue, collaboration, and commitment to the development of a supportive learning community.  The focus is on transdisciplinary and critical issues that cross health care disciplines.  Topics may include interprofessional learning, reflective practice, ethical issues in health care practice, humanities in health professional education, mentorship, clinical reasoning, professionalism, the development of expertise, continuing competency, critical perspectives in health professional education, critical appraisal of research evidence, knowledge translation, accessible educational design, communities of practice, cross cultural contexts and other related areas.  Research in this stream may consider issues that arise during the initial process of professional acculturation during preparatory education or with respect to the lifelong professional development that health care practitioners undertake throughout their professional lives.
