The field of child and youth health involves research pertaining to child health and development from birth to early adulthood. This field encompasses a range of developmental health issues, such as: typical and atypical development, major determinants of child health, including child, family, and environmental factors, knowledge of childhood diseases and disorders, and treatment of the disorders of childhood. Research in this area focuses on understanding and optimizing the health and participation of children and youth. Course descriptions for the Child and Youth Health field. The Comprehensive Exam consists of one research paper that must be written and assessed by the end of the student’s second year in Child and Youth Health. The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate a broad understanding of substantive and methodological issues related to child and youth health. The format of the exam consists of critical, written scholarly work (20-25 double-spaced pages) and an oral presentation of the paper. The paper will address a topical issue relevant to child and youth health. A comprehensive committee or the field committee, consisting of at least one core faculty member from the concentration, will approve the submitted paper topic, and will evaluate the written and oral presentations.
