The purpose of this course is to provide students with a forum to critically examine the philosophical assumptions underpinning various perspectives drawn upon by occupational scientists, as well as the core assumptions underlying occupational science itself. Students will explore various ways of conceptualizing and enacting disciplines and interdisciplinarity, and consider their contribution to understanding the historical, contemporary and future shaping of occupational science. The course will combine lectures, seminars, and guest and students presentations, in order to better represent the wide range of the current body of knowledge in Occupational Science. HS 9660/9670 Course Outline 2012 - 2013 This interactive seminar will provide an opportunity for students and faculty to explore, in greater depth, selected topics and issues related to the study of occupational science. This seminar will involve knowledge exchange among students and researchers through the presentation and discussion of various aspects of their research (ie. Foundations, methodological approaches, findings, knowledge transfer). Discussion will relate presentations to current issues in occupational science and will facilitate integration of knowledge. The comprehensive requirement for the PhD will involve completing a comprehensive paper that demonstrates a consolidated and critical understanding of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of occupational science and the applicability of occupational science to the student’s field of interest. Evaluation of the paper will be conducted by a comprehensive examination committee.Occupational Science Course Descriptions
