Evidence-based Practice (EBP) establishes a professional practice that is based on theoretical knowledge and consists of using both the best scientific evidence available for clinical decision making and standardized tools used in measuring the services provided (CPA 1995).

What Kind of Exercise Should our Older Clients do for Health and Fitness?

CCAA Research Director, Dr. Don Paterson, was actively involved in crafting the new guidelines that were released in January 2011. The new guidelines are reflective of the best and most recent evidence of the type, intensity and duration of exercise older adults need to do in order to gain health and fitness benefits.

Key Message!

Older adults need to accumulate 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous- intensity aerobic physical activity per week!  Intensity is key to an effective program!
