Welcome to the Thames Valley Family Practice Research Unit’s (TVFPRU) home page.  The TVFPRU is a health systems-linked research unit funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care.

The TVFPRU is a tripartite relationship among researchers, health service providers, and policy makers to undertake relevant health services research.  The Unit was formed by the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine of The University of Western Ontario and the London Chapter of the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 1989.  The partnership of researchers and practising community physicians ensures that the research undertaken by the Unit is relevant, rigorously conducted, and evaluated from both theoretical and day-to-day practice points of view.  The tripartite relationship ensures that results are applicable and easily translated into practice and policy.

Research carried out by the TVFPRU spans a broad range of topics in the area of family practice/primary care including patient-centred care, diabetes care, home care, woman abuse, child health issues among many others.  These topics are reflected in the specific research goals set out by our Unit.

I hope you enjoy browsing through our website which provides information on the talented people who work with us, the purpose, goals and activities of the TVFPRU, the projects we are working on, and publications and resources we have produced.  Happy browsing!!
