Q: Who do I call if an automatic door push button is broken?
A: Call Physical Plant (519-661-3304 or ext. 83304) or email firstname.lastname@example.org to report the broken hardware.
Q: I need to find an accessible route throughout the campus. Where can I find a map of all accessible routes? Who can help me find accessible routes to navigate campus?
A: The University of Western Ontario’s accessibility maps can be found at: www.uwo.ca/maps/accessmaps/ . You may also want to call Rehabilitation Services (519-661-2111 ext. 85578) to speak to a Rehabilitation Coordinator who can help you map out the necessary accessible routes.
Q: I am going to need time off work to undergo treatment for a medical condition. Where do I go to arrange my time off work?
A: Short term and long term disability are arranged through Rehabilitation Services. Rehabilitation Services provides a confidential service to employees. Check out the Rehab website to see who to contact.
Q: I need an accessible parking pass. How do I go about getting one?
A: If you have a MTO issued accessible parking permit, take the MTO permit, your Western ID and your parking disk to Parking Services. If you do not have an MTO issued accessible parking permit, take your medical documentation to Rehabilitation Services and a Rehab Coordinator will send a letter on your behalf to Parking Services requesting temporary accessible parking.
Q: How do I request an ergonomics assessment of my office workstation?
A: Check out the ergonomics self-help website and complete Steps 1 - 4 under office ergonomics. If you require further help, discuss your concerns and request for an ergonomics assessment with your supervisor. Lastly, complete and forward the Office Ergonomics Pre-Assessment Survey found on the ergonomics website to Rehabilitation Services. This will prompt the ergonomist to contact you to set up an appointment for an assessment.
Q: Who do I contact if I feel I have been subjected to discrimination or harassment because of my disability?
A: Equity and Human Rights Services (EHRS) administers the University’s policies on discrimination and harassment. EHRS offers confidential advice and can help you determine your best course of action. For more information about EHRS visit their website at www.uwo.ca/equity. Q: What is the duty to accommodate and how does it relate to disability?
A: Based on the Ontario Human Rights Code, employers, service providers and unions have an obligation to take steps to eliminate disadvantage, resulting from a rule, practice or physical barrier, to employees, prospective employees or clients protected under the Code. As such, the duty to accommodate applies to accommodating the needs of persons with disabilities. At the base of this obligation is the recognition that ‘true equality means respect for people’s different needs’. The term accommodation means changing the rule or practice to incorporate alternative arrangements that eliminate discriminatory barriers. Q: What kinds of accessibility features are available at Western Libraries?
A: Western Libraries provides seven service locations located in wheelchair accessible buildings. The Western Libraries web site, your gateway to online collections supporting academic research, fully meets Level-AAA conformance to the accessibility guidelines set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines provide a means of promoting web accessibility and ensuring sites are fully accessible to users. Assistive technologies are available at select Western Libraries locations such as CCTV units and character enlarging software. Western Libraries staff are available to help you, inquire at any service desk for assistance. Q:Is it possible to access the library and its resources from an off campus location?
A: Yes, it is possible to access the library from off campus locations. This is done by connecting to the library by using the Library’s proxy server. For more information, an audio guide about connecting to the proxy server is available here.
Q: Where can I learn about resources that may be available in certain classrooms on campus?
A: Information about resources in classrooms can be found on the Classroom Management Group’s website.
