Twentieth-Century British and Irish Literature

Summer Sessions 2012


Antirequisite(s):
English 2331E, 2332F/G, 2333F/G, 2334E, 2335F/G and 2336F/G.

Prerequisite(s): At least 60% in 1.0 of English 1020E, or 1022E, or 1024E, or 1035E, or 1036E, or both of English 1027G/G and 1028F/G, or permission of the Department.

This course is framed by the question "What does it mean to be modern?" To answer this question, we will explore problems of history, language, and genre in the work of writers like T.S. Eliot, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Mina Loy, Samuel Beckett, Jean Rhys, Julian Barnes, and Jeanette Winterson.
