Professor Manina Jones
Winter Half Course.
This course will consider the development of the contemporary historical novel in Canada, from the 1970’s to recent fiction. We will consider the contemporary occasions that generate historical recollection, as well as the formal modes and ideological implications of historical narratives and their relation to the construction, subversion, and/or interrelation of discourses of citizenship, ethnicity, and nationalist, anti-nationalist, and transnational discursive modes. Course readings will include novels and a selection of critical articles.
