My teaching covers the gambit of late medieval English literature from early romance to Chaucer to Malory, love lyric to drama to chronicle history. I try to encourage students to recognize and engage with a literary tradition which is foreign both in terms of its texts and its aesthetic and ethical sensibilities. My research focuses on that tradition and the ways that canonical texts move through the Middle Ages as they are adapted and transformed through different languages, genres and time periods. I’ve worked on Arthurian literature and Ovid and am currently exploring the literary world of English heralds.
