A Full Professor since 2008, Dr. Julia Emberley teaches and researches in Indigenous literatures, Indigenous and Post-colonial Cultural Studies, Women’s Contemporary Literatures, Ecology Studies and Testimony and Trauma Studies. She has recently completed a SSHRC supported research project on Indigenous storytelling, knowledge practices, and testimony. Her supervision of PhD graduate students includes projects on Indigenous women’s literatures, Arab-American women’s literatures, Adaptation studies and Ecology studies. She is a recipient of the Graham and Gale Wright Distinguished Scholar Award and the USC Teaching Honour Roll Certificate. Her editorial work includes membership on the editorial board of English Studies in Canada and two guest edited volumes for English Studies in Canada and Australian Humanities Research. At a recent conference panel at CACLALS, her latest book Defamiliarizing the Aboriginal: Indigenous Cultural Practices and Decolonization in Canada received special attention. Three respondent papers and her own response were subsequently published in Topia. Prof. Emberley has several keynote addresses, plenary and invited presentations. She is currently a member of the Interdisciplinary Development Initiative on Indigenous Health and Wellness at UWO.
