My research interests include British imperial and South Asian Colonial and Post-colonial literatures. More specifically, I examine the role of theatre and performance in the historical context of nationalism and colonialism. These interests have found an extension into exploring the development of theatrical practices in diasporic spaces and their links to the question of migration and the post-colonial condition. I am currently working on two projects. Funded by SSHRC Standard Research Grant, 2010-13, I am researching the relationship between colonial censorship and literary movements in India from 1858-1947. The second is a SSHRC funded Collaborative Research Development Initiative titled “Performing on the margins of India. This project aims to develop strategies and frameworks for understanding some of India’s marginalized performance practices.
