Editorial Emendations

These notes record all editorial emendations in the present text to the Rouge et Noir version of "Hans Fingerhut’s Frog-lesson" and the manuscript of "The Fairy Fountain." Each entry contains the reading of the present text before the square bracket and the reading of the copy text after it. Thus the entry under "Hans Fingerhut’s Frog-lesson," "74 to his waist ] to hip waist" indicates that in line 74 of the fairy tale "hip" in the Rouge et Noir has been replaced by "his" in the present edition.
