The Department runs Field Courses that are integral parts of
our Programs and Modules; in addition, we run field trips that are a
part of specific courses, as well as trips that are not for specific
credit but nevertheless provide important breadth of experience. Each year, the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) student
chapter at Western typically organizes one or more, non-credit field
trips to areas of economic mineralization. Trips in the last few years
have included Arizona, the southern Appalachians, the Adirondacks,
Southeastern California, Marquette Iron Ranges, and a traverse of the
Kapuskasing High. Whitefish Falls, Ontario. ES 2250Y, field mapping. Drs. Corcoran and Osinski (Early May) Sudbury area, Ontario. ES 3350Y, advanced field mapping. Drs. Jiang and Moser (Early May). Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. ES 4450Y. Regional field geology. Drs. Plint and Cheadle (Early September) Eastern Ontario. ES 4451Z. Practical application of geophysical techniques. Dr. Pratt. (Early September). International Field School. ES 4459Y / GL
