Research Interests

Dr. Caldwell has long been interested in the evolution of the Western Interior foreland basin, with an emphasis on the southern Interior Plains of Canada. His work has focused on foraminiferal and molluscan biostratigraphy, and paleogeographic evolution with an emphasis on marine cyclicity and its eustatic and tectonic controls. Dr. Caldwell's co-authored work, Evolution of the Western Interior Basin, is considered a landmark in Cretaceous geology. He is a former Vice-President (Research) of the University of Western Ontario, and an Officer of the Order of Canada.
