The University of Western Ontario's Trois-Pistoles French Immersion School attracts participants from all over Canada, the United States, Latin America, and other parts of the world, who wish to upgrade their education or pursue a professional or personal goal. The Trois-Pistoles French Immersion School offers its clients an experience of a lifetime: a complete immersion environment, so that they not only learn French, but live the language and the culture.

Five-Week Degree Credit Sessions

May 13 - June 14 and July 8 - August 9, 2013

COURSES (Complete list of courses)
The Trois-Pistoles French Immersion School provides credit courses for all levels. These include language and grammar courses from Western University's French Department as well as courses in oral French and, from time to time, special topics. Our highly-qualified instructors will help participants to meet the challenge of communicating in French. The pedagogical approach emphasizes a combination of formal grammar and concrete, interactive, small-group situations conducive to meaningful learning.

Please Note: Due to the intensity of the immersion program in Trois-Pistoles, academic work outside of, but concurrent with your Trois-Pistoles course, such as an online course, is not recommended. Your immersion experience requires your full and exclusive attention.

WORKSHOPS
All students participate in afternoon workshops which encourage communicating in French in an informal and creative context. As an integral part of the program, these workshops offer students the opportunity to put into practice the skills they develop in class. The workshops are designed to create opportunities to communicate with the people of the community. Workshops offered in previous years have included the following: communication for beginners, writing, chanson québécoise, sports, improvisation and community integration through volunteer work.

SOCIO-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Activities organized by the School emphasize the cultural aspect of learning a language. Local monitors accompany participants during these events to ensure their interaction with French-speaking people. Activities such as Québécois song and dance evenings, plays, films, concerts, lectures and visits with local craftspeople and artists open a door to the cultural environment.

HOMESTAY WITH  LOCAL RESIDENTS
Homestay in the community is the cornerstone of our immersion program. Living with residents of the town,  participants form close bonds with francophone people and practice French in all aspects of daily life. Dynamic, friendly and helpful, Trois-Pistoles' host families bring something special to every participant's learning experience. Participants often mention homestay as one of the most enriching and rewarding aspects of the program.

SPORTS & RECREATION
The School offers the opportunity to participate in many organized sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball and badminton. Furthermore, a full range of sports activities are available in and around the town, including golfing, sea kayaking and canoeing, windsurfing, swimming, and tennis. The region around Trois-Pistoles is blessed with spectacular natural attractions. You can go whale-watching at the mouth of the Saguenay River or bird-watching at Île-aux-Basques Bird Sanctuary; explore the trails of national and provincial parks; cycle on the "Green Trail" through the countryside or enjoy campfires by the sea.

ELIGIBILITY
Participants must be 17 years old  by the first day of the session in which they wish to enrol.
