What is the advantage of taking the diploma instead of doing an apprenticeship?
Diploma allows future Pedorthists the opportunity to learn from a minimum of 9 different C Ped (C)’s (at least 7 different instructors, and at least 2 different practicum site supervisors).
Diploma courses ensure the potential pedorthist is covering all aspects of the pedorthic profession, which may lead to a more thorough training experience.
Diploma course can be completed in 1 year while the apprenticeship route takes at least 2-3 years
What makes a Certified Pedorthist Canada different from other health professionals who provide orthoses?
A C Ped (C) requires a referral from a medical doctor, podiatrist, chiropodist, chiropractor or a physiotherapist in order to provide treatment (this eliminates prescriber/ provider conflict of interest)
Pedorthists are the only foot specialists that have extensive training in footwear design, construction, modification and fit
Pedorthists are non-invasive (do not perform skin care treatment that would involve removal of skin or nails)
