Nathan Garber

Nathan Garber

Improving management and governance in the non-profit sector has been Nathan Garber’s passion for more than 35 years. In pursuit of this goal he has led two non-profits to international recognition, served on many boards and committees, and provided consulting and training services for hundreds of organizations, large and small. His articles have been published in Canada, the United States, the UK, and Australia. His work and writing have been recognized for innovative, leading-edge thinking and the challenging of conventional ideas about boards of directors. He was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Nonprofit Boards & Governance Review, an electronic newsletter with more than 5,000 subscribers. Nathan is principal consultant of Nathan Garber & Associates.

Holly Doty has spent 10 years building an Event Management & Public Relations company, Connect Dot, that is intended to share best practices and roads to success for organizations that require solid event and association management services. She has immaculate skills in keeping projects on time and on budget and specializes in managing committees while ensuring ultimate success. Holly has been involved with strategic event management and development solutions for national associations such as the Sunshine Foundation and Easter Seals. She has worked with The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, as well as government funded organizations including the London Economic Development Corporation, Regional HIV/AIDS Connection and TechAlliance. Holly has an Honours B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Western Ontario and a postgraduate certificate in Business Management from Georgian College. Holly is also fluent in French and English.

Barry Fellinger as of October 2011 is the Manager of Community Health Services at the West Elgin Community Health Centre located in West Lorne. Prior to accepting this post, he held the position of Director, Project Management with ConnexOntario Health Services Information, and prior to that was Manager of Information and Referral Services with ConnexOntario.  His experience working for not-for-profit organizations also includes serving as Executive Director of The Crest Centre (Meadowcrest) Inc. and working in numerous roles with Mission Services of London.  Barry holds a Bachelors Degree in Theology and a Certificate in Human Resource Management.  He is also a certified Master Level Crisis Prevention Intervention Counsellor and has extensive experience serving on a variety of community and professional committees, including for the Ministry of Health.  Barry has taught at Fanshawe College and currently teaches the “Foundations of Leadership” course in the Not-for-Profit Management Program.

Jennifer Kirkham holds a Master of Science in Rural Extension Studies from the University of Guelph and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western.  Jennifer has over fifteen years of experience working for the City of London, Ontario in such roles as Chief Strategic Planning Officer as well as Director of the Community Programs and Strategies Division.  She is also active in the community as a Member of the Board of Directors for Across Languages and a Member of the Community Services Committee with the United Way of London and Middlesex.  Jennifer founded and manages her own consulting company, Mischevious Cat Productions, which provides consulting and executive coaching services to individuals, organizations and teams in both the not-for-profit and private sectors.  She teaches both at King’s University College and in the Not-for-Profit Management Program where she teaches the course “Strategic Planning for Not-for Profits.”

Working for over twenty years in the human resources field within industry, education, health and government sectors, Walter Lenny has been engaged in organizational consulting and adult education. His recent work includes program development in health care, curriculum development for a bachelor level program as well as leadership development in the insurance industry. Walter teaches courses in Adult Education, Arts Management, Not-for-Profit Management and for the Certificate in Management and Leadership programs for Continuing Studies at the University of Western Ontario.  He is also currently a board member with Children’s International Summer Villages—a charity aimed a promoting the understanding of cultural differences among youth

Suzanne McDonald Azizis the Executive Director of the Thames Talbot Land Trust. Prior to this, Susanne was the Executive Director of the Brescia University College Foundation. She is a graduate of The University of Western Ontario in Political Science and French.  Prior to her current position, Suzanne had an extensive corporate affairs and public relations career with John Labatt Limited.  Teaching has always been a major focus for Suzanne—she taught in the fund development program for many years both in Continuing Studies at Western and Fanshawe College.  She has been an active board volunteer with the Stratford Festival, the Centrefor Philanthropy, the United Way of London and Middlesex, the Ontario Council for University Affairs, the London Regional Children’s Museum and the Board of The University of Western Ontario Alumni Association.  She serves on the Board of the Ontario Trust Foundation, the Arts Project and on the University of Western Ontario Senate as an Alumni Representative.

A fundraising professional for more than a decade, Liz Rejman, CFRE, has spent her entire career in the not-for-profit sector bringing her dynamic expertise to health care, education, and the arts.  Her specialties include prospect research and database management with a particular interest in social media, trend watching, and media monitoring. 

In addition to her role as Development Researcher with London Health Sciences Foundation, in London, Ontario, Liz is an instructor for courses on Prospect Research and Technology in the Not for Profit with The University of Western Ontario and Georgian College. 

Liz has presented on the topics of media monitoring, prospect research and social media within prospect research at conferences for LRFRE, AFP Canada South and Association of Professionals in Advancement, Canada Chapter (APRA-C).  She is currently President of London Region Fund Raising Executives (LRFRE), an association of professionals engaged in fund raising efforts in London, Ontario’s charitable sector.

Gordon Saylor teaches Finance for Not-for-Profit Organizations and is the Manager of Accounting for WOTCH Community Mental Health Services in London, Ontario. Gordon has significant experience in financial management and has worked for not-for-profits, including the St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation, as well as in the private sector for Dundee Private Investors, Allen Business Services, Ltd, and EMCO Distribution Division. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, he holds a Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation and is active in the community serving on the Board of Directors for The Old South Community Organization, The Thames Talbot Land Trust, as Past Chair of The Covent Garden Market Corporation, and as Vice Chair for the London & Middlesex Housing Corporation. Gordon also volunteers with The London Community Players.
