What is the Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management?
The Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management is offered in partnership with the Faculty of Social Science. This program will enable graduates from a number of disciplines to build on the solid theoretical grounding obtained in their degree programs by adding practical and applied skills required to work in the field of Not-for-Profit management.
What are the minimum admission requirements?
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
The application deadline for this program is March 1. Applicants who must apply for admission to the University first are encouraged to begin the application process as soon as possible. Application forms are typically available by November.
When will I know if my application has been accepted?
All decisions regarding admission to the program are communicated in writing. Admission decisions may take approximately 6-8 weeks after receipt of all application documents. Applicants are strongly encouraged to ensure all pieces of both the supplemental application, as well as the OUAC application (where applicable), arrive well before the application deadline at the appropriate destinations. Decisions will not be relayed over the telephone.
How long do I have to complete the program?
The Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management can be completed either full or part-time. Students have three years from the time of acceptance to complete all program requirements.

Can I take courses before being admitted to the program?
Yes, prospective students may take up to two (2) Certificate-credit courses before being admitted to the program.
I have been working in a not-for-profit related field for a few years. Do I still need the undergraduate degree to apply?
If you have relevant work experience, you should apply to the Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management. Continuing Studies offers a Certificate developed specifically for students who have a minimum of two (2) years work experience in the field. Documented work experience and references are required.

If you have at least two years relevant work experience, you should consider applying to the Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management.
What is the difference between the Diploma and Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management?
The difference between the Diploma and Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management is:
Admission to the Diploma requires successful completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited university and is geared toward new graduates with little or no work experience in the Not-for-Profit sector. The Diploma includes a practicum where students gain work experience in the field.
Admission to the Certificate requires two years of work experience in the Not-for-Profit sector (or an approved alternative to be determined at the time of application) and is geared toward indivduals who are looking to make a career change or upgrade their current skills with formal education. The Certificate does not include a practicum placement. If you are looking for work experience in the field, you will need to apply and meet the admission criteria of the Diploma.
