Deborah Bates is the Coordinator of Communications and Publications for Student Services at Western University and has been employed by Western for more than 15 years. Her area of expertise is with not-for-profit and internal marketing and communications. Graduating from Western University with an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Diploma in Accounting, her career direction changed when she accepted a position that moved her into a role that had more of a communications and marketing focus. Deborah is currently a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and of the University and College Designers Association (UCDA).
Deborah is also an active member of the community, serving on the current Board of Childreach, as well as being the incoming Secretary for the London Chapter of the IABC Board.
Mary Ellen Khan is the Instructor for the Contemporary Media and Emerging Trends in Marketing courses for the Marketing Diploma program. She brings 20 years of industry experience and tremendous insight through her role as Director of Media Strategies at Tenzing Communications. Tenzing is a full-service marketing communications company that's expert in brand strategy and creation through deployment; building web communities, running national ad campaigns, integrating digital and traditional tactics for packaged goods, retail, financial, high-tech and non-profit organizations.
Mary Ellen is passionate about understanding the new consumer centric marketplace and the abundant opportunity in the digital/mobile space. Her credentials include: Canadian Marketing Association Certificate in E-Marketing (2006), Queen’s Executive Development Program (2006), B.A. Ryerson University (1990).
A keen supporter of community and media associations, she is currently on the Board of Governance for Habitat for Humanity London, the IABC London Board (Web & Social Media Liaison Officer) and the Media Directors Council of Canada.
Cynthia Lockrey is the owner of Lockrey Communications. A storyteller by nature, she creates dynamic and innovative media campaigns for clients across North America.
Cynthia was actively involved in the lead up to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games while working as the Senior Manager, Media Relations for the City of Richmond, a Venue City. During the Olympics, Cynthia welcomed media from around the world as the media centre manager for Richmond’s live celebration site.
Prior to moving to BC, Cynthia was the Manager of Corporate Communications for the City of London where she was created a number of award winning media campaigns.
It is through her over 15 years of experience as a professional communicator, journalist and newspaper editor that she helps organizations avoid common pitfalls and develop positive relationships with the media.
Cynthia now resides in Sarnia, Ontario and is a regular speaker at conferences across Canada, a corporate trainer and a university instructor.
Colleen McGeough-Ibsen teaches the Advanced Marketing Strategy course and is the Manager of Marketing Services for 3M Company’s Mining, Oil & Gas Solutions Division. Colleen’s Marketing Services team is based out of Canada and the US but has global responsibility, providing high-calibre eBusiness, marketing, communications, business analytics and general marketing support to the many subsidiaries, divisions and business units that comprise the Mining, Oil & Gas organization.
Colleen’s relevant experience includes more than 15 years working in marketing management, sales, and financial roles within large diversified corporations. She is passionate about delivering excellence in marketing and is motivated by coaching others to achieve their own development goals.
Matt Quin is a Communications Specialist at Western University where he works on "everything communications" for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Matt has significant experience in communications working with The Grand Theatre and volunteering with the London Chamber of Commerce, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and Doors Open London. He also teaches Public Relations and Crisis and Strategic Communications in Fanshawe College's Continuing Education program.
Kadie Ward has worked in various marketing, communications and public relations roles since launching her career as a partner at Pensells Copywriting. She has held positions with Western University, Media Management Inc., and The London Chamber of Commerce.Kadie has a Masters in Media Studies and a Bachelor of Arts from Western University. Passionate about the community, Kadie is a member of several boards including MainStreet London, The Canadian Club of London, and The Ontario Chamber of Commerce. She is also an active member of several professional associations, such as the International Association for Business Communications, Canadian Communications Association, as well as the Canadian Marketing Association.
Tanya Wickett developed and teaches the "Market Research and Analysis" course for the new Marketing Diploma program. She brings over 15 years of industry related marketing and sales experience to this role, having worked for clients such as Pepsi, Cadbury Chocolate, Gatorade and Microsoft to name a few. For eight years, Tanya has been teaching business studies, including Introductory Marketing, Intermediate Marketing, Market Research, Small Business Management at Fanshawe College. Tanya holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Marketing, from the University of Guelph, and volunteers for Junior Achievement at many highschools across London.
Jason Young currently manages the Marketing, Sponsorship and Sales at Western University’s. He works in the Sport and Recreation Services department and is responsible for all of the Mustangs Sport Properties including; sponsorships, marketing promotions, graphic designs, ticket sales and merchandise. Jason began his career in the Not for Profit sector working for The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation , The United Way of Greater Toronto and Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
Jason spent 6 years working for CIBC as a Senior Manager working managing all of CIBC’s charitable properties including the Run for the Cure, World Markets Children’s Foundation, Weekend to End Breast Cancer, and United Way campaigns. Jason is the outgoing Chair of the Board for the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and volunteers his time with many local organizations. Jason has a Masters Degree in Sport Management with a focus on marketing and events and an Honours BA in Kinesiology.
