Continuing Studies is proud to partner with industry leaders for the practicum component of the Post-Degree Diploma programs.
Placement Site: KCI Management INC.
Placement Program: Marketing
How did the student contribute to your organization during their practicum?
Carly participated in a number of large scale corporate marketing events while she was at KCI. She worked as a roving social media reporter at an annual event for an international client with great success! She also helped us to develop our social media plan to make KCI more active on Twitter and increased our Twitter following, tweeting continually for the team about all of the different events we do across North America. Carly worked the entire life cycle of some of our events, right from the planning and logistics stage, all the way through to the flawless on-site execution
What skills/qualities did the student bring to their practicum?
Carly had a strong desire to put her marketing and social media skills, as well as a keen desire to learn more about the events industry, not just from the perspective of what happens on site but what goes in to the entire life cycle of each event.
Is mentorship important to you (or to your organization)?
At KCI we welcome the chance to work with young people who are eager to launch their career, especially those that are serious about working hard, thinking smart and open to learning from our experience. We believe strongly that having somebody to believe in you, listen, coach and offer guidance can make a real difference on an individual’s self-esteem and ultimately their success.
Would you recommend that other organizations consider participating as a practicum site?
I would definitely recommend participating in this program to other organizations. At KCI we like the freedom an internship gives us and we enjoy mentoring people’s careers. It is a great opportunity to give students a chance to gain real work experience and it gives the organization a chance to work with individual students who bring new ideas and perspectives into the organization. Setting goals and objectives at the beginning of the program helps to make the time the students spends with your organization valuable to the student and to the organization. It is a win-win.
