Laboratory Safety

Student at deskOur undergraduate-laboratory experiments are designed to be as safe as possible. Nonetheless, university safety policy requires all faculty, staff, and students to be in the apporpriate laboratory attire:

  • Full-length lab coat. The short, designer lab coats or pharmacy coats do not offer sufficient protection and cannot be worn in the chemistry lab.
  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • Long hair tied back
  • Long pants (no shorts or skirts)
  • Socks
  • Close-toed shoes that completely cover the upper foot, from the anke to the toe. Sandals are not acceptable.
