April 2012: Welcome Professor Joe Gilroy
We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joe Gilroy to the Department of Chemistry as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry. Dr. Gilroy is currently an EU Marie Curie Fellow at the School of Chemistry, the University of Bristol, UK. Dr. Gilroy completed his PhD in 2008 at the University of Victoria under the supervision of Professor Robin Hicks. He then joined the School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol as an NSERC of Canada Postdoctoral Fellow working with the world-renowned inorganic polymer chemist, Professor Ian Manners. He continued in that position for two years. In 2010, he was awarded a prestigious EU Marie Curie Research Fellowship, also with Professor Manners. Dr. Gilroy’s research interests are diverse ranging from coordination chemistry to functional materials science. His research program is aimed at developing versatile synthetic strategies to produce well-defined metal-containing and radical-containing polymers as well as developing synthetic protocols towards functional coordination polymer nanoparticles with controlled size and shape. Welcome to Chemistry, Joe!
