Outreach Activities


The Department of Chemistry is pleased to bring the science of chemistry to a wide audience outside of the university community. The objectives of outreach are to acquaint the general public with the practice of chemistry and to attract potential students into the discipline. These are made possible by acting in concert with activities sponsored by the larger university community, the Faculty of Science, the Chemical Institute of Canada, and Western's Undergraduate Chemistry Club.

Outreach activities that we offer include:

  • Presentations on chemistry-related topics by recognized experts in the field
  • Demonstrations, including Chemistry With A Bang and cryogenics
  • Tours of laboratory facilities in the Department of Chemistry, including such activities as glassblowing
  • Hands-on laboratory experiments
  • Supplying judges for science fairs
