CELL AND DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY MODULE
Honors Specialization
- Honors Specialization in Cell and Developmental Biology Requirements - This pdf form is a guide only, for complete information see the Academic Calendar.
Most of the life forms familiar to you are composed of trillions of individual cells. Much of modern biology rests on an understanding of the molecules and organelles found within these cells and the interactions between cells that allow the construction of complex multi-cellular bodies. The miraculous elaboration of a functional organism from one fertilized cell is a highly coordinated process requiring cells to grow, divide, differentiate into diverse types with different shapes and functions and to communicate with one another over short and long distances.

Fundamental life processes such as respiration and photosynthesis must be studied at the cellular level and the Cell and Developmental Biology program will allow you to put such biochemistry into the context of cell structure, tissue function, normal development pathways as well as disease conditions. You will also develop a sound understanding of the powerful modern instrumentation used in cell biology research.
The Cell and Developmental specialized honors degree module from the UWO Department of Biology is a wide ranging, integrative module that exposes students to expertise from a variety of disciplines and develops skills in experimental research, scientific writing, use of a research library and oral presentation.
Consultation with the chair of the Honors Specialization in Cell and Developmental Biology, Dr. Ron Podesta, is advised prior to registration in your third year.
