Current Research Activity
In the late 1980s I joined an author team put together by Wiley Canada to produce a high school biology text. This was my first real venture in writing outside the arena of refereed journals and conference proceedings. The book, Biology: Principles, Patterns and Processes, was published in 1989. This experience, together with a career-long interest in teaching plant physiology and cell biology, prompted me to try my hand at writing a plant physiology textbook. The result was Introduction to Plant Physiology, published in 1995 by John Wiley & Sons, New York. A second edition followed in 1999, with translations published in China and Korea. A third edition has now been published (April, 2003), with the assistance of Norman Hüner as co-author. I am currently working on a non-technical botany/plant physiology book that should be of interest to avid gardeners.
I am also currently serving as Consulting Editor for The Green World Series, a series of about twenty high school-level books focusing on plant biology currently being published by Chelsea House Publishers. I am also writing three of the titles in the series.
