This is a graduate level seminar course that will allow students to explore advanced topics in the field of global change biology. Assignments will include journal club-style presentations of individual research papers from the literature and a major essay and seminar based on a research topic and organized as a synthesis.
Appropriate topics consist of those outlined for the journal Global Change Biology and include the following:Climate change
Global change
Land-use change
Rising carbon dioxide
Ocean warming
Atmospheric pollution
Carbon sequestration
Carbon mitigation
Global food securityBoth biological responses and feedbacks to change are included, and may be considered at any level of organization from molecular to biome. Topics related to thesis work are acceptable.
