Breadth Requirements

In first year, students must include 1.0 course from each of two of the three categories A, B, and C, noted below.

Prior to graduation, students must successfully complete 1.0 course from each of Categories A, B, and C.

Social Science

Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary

American Studies, Childhood and Social Institutions (formerly Childhood and Family Relations), Dance, Education, Family Studies, Health Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies, Centre for Global Studies (formerly International and Comparative Studies; Modern Eastern Civilizations), Kinesiology, Linguistics, Media and the Public Interest, Media, Information and Technoculture, Nursing, Rehabilitation Sciences, Social Justice and Peace Studies*

Various

Business Administration, Foods and Nutrition, Human Ecology, Law, Music, Social Work, Thanatology

CATEGORY B

Arts and Humanities

*Students who completed Childhood and Family Relations, International and Comparative Studies, and Linguistics prior to September 1, 2007 are permitted to graduate with these courses recognized as Category B.

** Writing courses restricted to English as a Second Language students (e.g., Writing 0001F/G, 0002F/G, 1021F/G, 1022F/G) do not qualify as Category B courses.

Check your program to see whether you need a specific course. You must also check the prerequisites and antirequisites in the calendar to be sure you are eligible for the course.

Note that some of the courses are not sufficient to prepare you for senior level courses in the same subject. You can tell by reviewing the course description and the prerequisites of senior courses.

* Courses which require no previous Science background.
