Since January 2005, the University of Western Ontario, Department of Animal Care and Veterinary Services has offered a web-based Animal Care and Use Course, available to external institutions. It is designed to help you meet your training needs.

A basic animal care and use course which meets the Canadian Council on Animal Care requirements for Core 'A'

On-line instruction in practical areas.  These sessions are designed to prepare students for hands-on instruction.  Maximize the actual hands-on experience by allowing students to prepare ahead of time.

  • Post Mortem Techniques (rodent based)
  • Laboratory Animal Monitoring (mammalian)
  • Sterile Injections and Techniques
  • Mouse Injections and Techniques (restraint, bleeding, blood collection etc.)
  • Rat Injections and Techniques (restraint, bleeding, blood collection etc.)
  • Rabbit Injections and Techniques (restraint, bleeding, blood collection etc.)
  • Anaesthesia - Injectable
  • Anaesthesia - Gas
  • Surgery Room Methodology
  • Introduction to Pigs (anatomy and physiology as they relate to research, handling, injections, diseases and condition etc.)
  • Introduction to Sheep (anatomy and physiology as they relate to research, handling, injections, diseases and condition etc.)
