Animal based research at the University of Western Ontario is subject to:

• provincial legislation, the Ontario Animals for Research Act, under the auspices of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs;
• federal guidelines mandated by the Canadian Council on Animal Care;
• university policies as defined by the University Council on Animal Care and the Animal Use Subcommittee;
• the Tri Council Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Roles and Responsibilities in the Management of Federal Grants and Awards in particular Schedule 3: Ethical Review of Research Involving Animals
