Animal Care & Use / Information for Teachers / Tours

Visiting Information

The university student based group "Let's Talk Science" will visit your school and talk to students about university science course as well as the use of animals in research.  If they have visited your school they will arrange a visit for the students.  The visits include and number of departments including a holding facility for laboratory animals.

Student visits can also be arranged directly by a teacher contacting the department.  For information on tours please contact  Veterinary Services

In order to protect both the animals and people we require that the following rules are respected by all visitors.  The animals have highly developed senses of smell so odours from other animals can be upsetting.

  • Visitors must not have pet rodents or rabbits.

  • All visitors should wear freshly laundered clothes (gowns will be provided for the visit.)

  • Keep personal property to a minimum, you will not be allowed to take it into the facility.

  • Closed toe shoes are required.

  • Perfume and after shave should be kept to a minimum.

  • Be quiet during the visit.

  • Stay with the group.

Most students find the visits very informative, they learn what diseases are being studied and the opportunity to see a research animal eye to eye.
