Clinical Mammalian Histology
Course Outline and Schedule 2012/2013
Course Description:
This course is a survey course of mammalian histology with emphasis on clinical applications relevant to health care professionals. The course expects and highly encourages student participation and uses tutorial-style microscopic exploration and demonstrations of histologically sectioned material using microscopes and slides, as well as a Virtual Slide Box (VSB). Students are expected to come to each tutorial prepared as follows:
•Attend E-lectures either face-to-face, or live/archived on Owl Sakai before the tutorial
•Review the weekly topics by reading suggested texts and online notes provided on Owl Sakai
•Using the VSB, explore the sections to be studied that week
• Be prepared to present a clinical application of the histology covered At the beginning of class each week one student will be asked to present a short vignette (3-5 minutes max). These vignettes may be based, or expanded, on clinical application highlights in the text of your choice.

These texts have online student consult sites that may be useful for studying. Note: If you already have a histology text there is no need to purchase the recommended texts. Any other histology text is acceptable as well.

Assessments and mark breakdown:
Students will be evaluated on mini demonstrations, tutorial participation, assignments and quizzes.
